Thinking of buying a scooter?

So, you're about about to buy your first scooter. Here are a few pointers to help you on your way:

1. Get your licence. The RTA run special courses for scooter and motorcycle riders, so book in with them at your local registry. If the waiting list is lengthy, it's sometimes useful to ask if another centre (further afield) has a shorter queue. If you are prepared to travel they can often get you through faster.

2. Determine your budget, and be aware of it's limitations. We sell a large range of scooters, so can explain the difference between them when you come in. There are plenty of inexpensive scooters out there, but cheap isn't always best. Let us know what you'll be using your scooter for, and we can offer advice on the right one for you.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions

Q. Do I need a licence to ride a scooter?

A. In NSW, yes. Some states allow car licence holders to ride 50cc scooters, but NSW requires the rider to hold either a scooter or motorcycle licence.

Q. New or Second Hand, which is best?

A. A used scooter will always be cheaper to buy than a new one, obviously. There are many other factors however that determine the true 'cost' of your purchase.

For example, a new scooter has all new parts, whereas a used scooter does not. Tyres, brakes, batteries etc. all have a limited life span, and sometimes you can end up spending far more than you anticipated over the time of ownership.

Many customers we talk to are amazed at the price of new scooters and the value for money they offer. Because we sell both new and used scooters, you can be sure of objective and unbiased advice when you drop in to see us.

Q. What about riding gear?

A. We offer helmets from $89, gloves from $50 and jackets from $199, so it won't break the bank.

Q. How much is insurance for scooters?

Insurance for scooters is relatively well priced, but depends on your personal details such as your age and where you live. The NRMA are the biggest scooter insurer in NSW, so give them a call for a quote once you've decided on which scooter is the one for you.
